OpenMediaVault 6 network attached storage (NAS) software installed and configured on a Raspberry Pi 4, with a drive then mapped on a Windows PC. The OpenMediaVault website is here: 🤍 And the install instructions page I showed in the video is here: 🤍 However, the install process I demonstrated in the video, and which I believe is easier for beginners, is to: Download Raspberry Pi Imager from here: 🤍 User the imager to write Raspberry Pi OS Lite to a microSD card. Boot the Pi with a monitor and keyboard attached, and execute the commands: sudo apt update sudo apt upgrade -y sudo reboot wget -O - 🤍 | sudo bash The above should be all that is required on a Raspberry Pi 4. But on a Raspberry Pi 3A or 3B, before the wget command, first execute: sudo rm -f /etc/systemd/network/99-default.link More videos on SBCs and wider computing and related topics can be found at 🤍 You may also like my ExplainingTheFuture channel at: 🤍 Chapters: 00:00 Introduction 00:46 Hardware 02:27 Installation 09:31 Configuration 15:43 Mapping 17:13 Wrap #OMV6 #RaspberryPi #OpenMediaVault #ExplainingComputers

The TerraPi mounting kit used is available here: 🤍 The official instructions for installing OpenMediaVault on a Raspberry Pi or other SBC can be found here: 🤍 Raspberry Pi OS Lite can be downloaded from: 🤍 As detailed in this video, the commands for setting up OMV in Raspberry Pi OS Lite are as follows: After boot, login using the username: pi and password: raspberry Optionally, if you want to increase the console text size, enter: sudo dpkg-reconfigure console-setup and select “UTF-8”, “Guess optimal character set”, “Terminus” and 16x32. Then, to proceed to install OpenMediaVault execute: sudo apt update sudo apt upgrade -y sudo rm -f /etc/systemd/network/99-default.link sudo reboot Login in again, and execute as a single command: wget -O - https://github[.]com/OpenMediaVault-Plugin-Developers/installScript/raw/master/install | sudo bash In the above, do not enter the "[ ]" brackets around the dot before the com they are there to prevent the YouTube system not displaying the rest of the code correctly. Also note that there are no carriage returns, that there is a space after wget, another before the “-O”, another space after the “-O”, and another space between the following hyphen and “https...” There are then spaces before and after the vertical line before “sudo”, and one between “sudo” and “bash”. Note also that “-O” is a hyphen followed by a capital letter O (not a zero). In this video we'll look at How to Install Pihole on OpenMediaVault (OMV) 5. First things first, you'll need to change your OMV port from 80 to 81 so that Pihole can be on port 80. This is important for setting up DNS later as we can’t add a port number to DNS. Docker has to be in Swarm Mode. Changing to Swarm Mode SHOULDN’T affect pre-existing containers. I’ve tested a few with positive results. More info about Docker Swarm: 🤍 First, setup Docker Swarm: - docker swarm init - Reboot Change permissions of Config folder in shares: - chmod -R ugo+rwx Config - create Pihole folder - create etc-pihole folder in Pihole folder - create ect-dnsmasq.d folder in Pihole folder Add stack to Portainer (Download/Copy Schema from here): 🤍 Moving forward, Portainer won't accept Version “2” schemas - You'll have to change “2” to “3” You may also gave to manually create folders when creating containers Pihole won’t show IP addresses of individual clients on the network. It will only show the IP Pihole created for the virtual network. Queries and Clients charts won’t show anything for a bit. Takes time for some reason. Give it about 20 minutes and they should show up. /=/ Here's my Amazon Influencer Shop Link: Amazon: 🤍 /=/ Like what I do? Want to be generous and help support my channel? This example shows setting up Raid 1 using external USB WD drives. This will let you see how OMV works before you go with a full blown systems. You will see by searching the forums that it isnt suggested to use USB drives. In the case of RPi, it is due to a single controller being on the RPI board that doesn’t have as much throughput capacity as regular motherboards. Since we are using multiple drives, I would suggest using a power USB hub so that you are pulling as much power as two drives have the potential from from the RPi computer. Adding a 2nd drive to an existing single drive to make a raid 1 (mirrored) configuration SSH to OMV RPi - Disable SMB Service - Delete SMB Share - Delete Shared Folder (select the option to delete Folder but not data) - Dismount sda1 Establish a SSH session to your RPi/OMV server Try ls -l /dev/s* Do this before plugging in the second drive Repeat after plugging in 2nd drive to help correctly identify 2nd drive mdadm create /dev/md/name /dev/sda1 /dev/sdb1 level=1 raid-devices=2 Note: Name - change this to the name you want the RAID associated to Sda1 - this is the first drive you started with Sda2 - this is the second drive you are adding This command copies the data from the first drive to the second drive. Depending on the USB drives you are using, the drive names may be slightly different (especially if you are using the powered USB hub that I mentioned earlier). To check status of raid build mdadm detail /dev/md127 (change 127 to number shown in OVM portal) You will find the number under Storage, Raid Management Status of array build will also be found under Storage, Raid Management 1.
