In this age of ‘fast fashion’, we have become voracious consumers of clothes with disastrous consequences for our planet and the people. Yet each of us can become a fashion revolutionary by slowing down. Known among friends as the ‘environmentalist in stilettos’, Xenya Cherny-Scanlon has worked with the United Nations and major international organizations across three continents — in Africa, Australia and Europe — on promoting greener and fairer ways of living. Xenya brings together her two passions — fashion and sustainability — in a blog greenstilettos.com, which has a vision of "putting glam into green”. She also serves as a sustainable luxury and fashion expert, writer and researcher. Xenya lives in a small village on the shores of Lake Geneva with her husband and two children. Very much scared to upload this video because of how it may be interpreted, but hopefully I made sense and I just wanted to share the thoughts I've been having the past year and just give context..☀️ 🤍 CLICK BELOW FOR MORE 👇🏼 Aja Barber 🤍 Carrie's video 🤍 Shelbizleee's video 🤍 Just wanted to say I am SO THANKFUL and APPRECIATIVE of this job, but specifically being in the sustainable fashion movement, I very much have this internal struggle to know what is right because there is valid criticism on both sides so no matter what I do I can truly never win. I just wanted to give context as to why I've uploaded certain videos and why at the end of 2020 I had been putting out so many thrift hauls. I love love LOVE thrifting, but I also understand doing massive thrift hauls every single week doesn't necessarily go with my mission to promote sustainable fashion and buying. I wanted to share also because with there being so many gray areas within this movement, you may have also experienced this dilemma or just the constant back and forth of trying to be perfect. At the end of the day, I know I need to just do what I think is best and not be over consumed by making every single person happy. Hopefully this video made sense and just thank you for supporting me and watching ❤️ Support Black Lives Matter (website with resources on petitions, where to donate, and more ways to help without donating) 👉🏻 🤍 📹 2nd CHANNEL 🤍 😎 Pinterest: 🤍 👗 SHOP MY CLOSET 👚 Poshmark: 🤍 - EQUIPMENT Main Camera * 🤍 Main Lens * 🤍 Wide Angle Lens * 🤍 Vlog Camera * 🤍 Background Shelf * 🤍 Clothing Rack 🤍 - Business email: alexasunshinebusiness🤍gmail.com COMMON QUESTIONS: - What's the "83" mean? Is that your birth year? NO, the "83" is for 08/03 = 83 which is my birthday (August 3rd). Basically alexasunshine was taken 😬 - Why do you thrift? To stop my consumption of fast fashion due to the horrible treatment of workers and the negative environmental impact of waste fast fashion produces. I recommend the documentary The True Cost 👍🏻 - Are your plants real? NO, all my plants are artificial! -Are your candles real? My aim is to build a community here on YouTube that is passionate about style but wants to pursue it consciously and ethically. I encourage you to explore shopping ethical & sustainable brands or those brands that are at least making progress (if these options are available to you). I also encourage you to shop second-hand as much as possible, whether that be at thrift shops or online like Depop & Facebook Marketplace. Do your best to be kind to people and the planet and you will be rewarded greatly ♥️ IN TODAY'S VIDEO... Today's lookbook video is an autumn capsule wardrobe video. I was inspired to create this video with a new skirt I bought from the thrift store recently. It has a beautiful blue, green and yellow colour palate that I used to base this capsule wardrobe on. I was also inspired by my love for Parisian fashion, so this capsule wardrobe video is a sustainable capsule wardrobe that is also a French inspired capsule wardrobe. I really enjoyed creating this Autumn capsule wardrobe because I think it really reflects my personal style at the moment and is authentically me. I hope this video inspires you to get creative with your own capsule wardrobes at home and also gives you some new outfit ideas. On this channel, I like to share fashion styling tips, outfit ideas and sustainable fashion tips. Fast fashion - The shady world of cheap clothing | DW Documentary

11.02.2022

Fast fashion has radically transformed the textile industry. These days, 56 million tons of clothing are sold every year. But cheap garments come at a high price: A precarious existence for workers and a catastrophic environmental impact. The clothing industry is currently deluging the planet with garments. With 100 billion items produced every year, that’s more than ever before. International companies are locked in an ongoing race to create new styles and win higher profits. And this gigantic expansion is set to continue: The sector is forecast to grow by 60 per cent by 2030. On the one hand, fast fashion means affordable clothes for all. Zara is known as the original fast fashion brand. The Spanish clothing giant creates 65,000 new styles every year. Shopping for clothes has become a veritable leisure activity stoked by social media: half of all Instagram posts are related to fashion and beauty. This is how market leaders in fast fashion influence their customers’ buying behavior, backed by relevant neuromarketing specialists. Fast fashion profits from e-commerce. No more trying on clothes in the store, the customer orders online and has the garment delivered - and if they don’t like it, they just send it back. Throwaway clothes and throwaway work: carried out by an army of couriers within the precarious gig economy. The textile industry is the sector with the world’s second-highest environmental price tag. Fast fashion manufacturers’ favorite material - viscose made from wood fibers - is marketed as a climate-friendly alternative. But producing this fabric uses a whole range of chemicals. This leads to serious health issues, not only for those working in the factories, but also for people living close by, for example in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. Every year in Europe, four million tons of clothing ends up in the trash. Less than one per cent of this is recycled. The fashion industry likes to parade its sustainability credentials, but the reality is quite the opposite. #documentary #dwdocumentary #fastfashion DW Documentary gives you knowledge beyond the headlines. Producing clothing is bad for the environment, but fast fashion companies H&M and Zara have come out with eco-collections that claim to reduce the harms involved. They also say that they’re moving their whole brands in a more sustainable direction. But is it all greenwashing?  #PlanetA #FastFashion #SustainableFashion We're destroying our environment at an alarming rate. Abonniere NZZ Format: 🤍

Α future sustainable fashion system | Malin Viola Wennberg | TEDxThessaloniki

Malin Viola Wennberg advocates that if there is a future fashion industry, it will be a sustainable fashion industry. She draws our attention to the fact that 80% of a garment's climate impact happens before the garment even hits the store. So, how can we build a better process? What needs to change in the global supply chain system? Συνεπως, δημιουργείται το ερώτημα: Πώς μπορούμε να φτιάξουμε ένα καλύτερο σύστημα στη βιομηχανία της μόδας; Τι χρειάζεται να αλλάξει παγκοσμίως στην τροφοδοτική αλυσίδα των ρούχων; Intro music by audionautix.com Malin Viola Wennberg is a Sustainable Fashion Advocate at heart, working as Communications Manager at Mistra Future Fashion in Stockholm Sweden. Malin has a background in PR Communications & Fashion Concept Development working with various established companies & start-ups in the Nordic Region and the US. Malin holds an MA in Fashion Studies from Parsons School of Design in New York City and her doctoral dissertation focuses on the perception of sustainable production in luxury items. Mistra Future Fashion is a cross-disciplinary research program aiming at a systemic change within the fashion industry and society. The research is focused on enabling a Circular Economy by taking on a full system perspective in examining every step of the fashion value chain. Mistra Future Fashion is initiated & funded by MISTRA the Swedish foundation for strategic environmental research. The program is hosted by RISE in collaboration with 15 research partners and involves more than 50 industry partners. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at 🤍
