Why net zero emissions are a scam, explained. Support OCC and get 20+ bonus, ad-free videos by signing up for Nebula: 🤍 In this Our Changing Climate climate change video essay, I look at why net zero emissions targets are a scam. Specifically I look at how the promises of net zero at COP26 will not actually mitigate climate change quickly. Net zero emissions does not mean zero emissions. Countries and companies like BP can use the net zero emissions goals and targets to continue burning fossil fuels and emitting carbon dioxide, ultimately fueling the climate crisis, while they rely on the false promise of carbon capture and carbon sequestration techniques like tree planting or technologies that haven't even been invented yet. Essentially, net zero emissions schemes allow for a worsening of the climate crisis because they are a procrastination technique for countries and corporations who do not want to reduce their emissions. Because of the vague definition of net zero, even fossil fuel companies like BP could call themselves net zero yet still continue with business as usual. Discover how, if the world is to meet the more ambitious climate goal of the Paris Agreement, changes to the energy system must happen faster. This is illustrated in our Shell scenarios, which explore a range of possible futures to help make better decisions today, for tomorrow. Our three newest scenarios are all on a path towards net-zero CO2 emissions. But the choices society makes will determine how quickly the world moves towards net-zero emissions. Industry, governments and society must work together to make the right choices, now. This needs to happen in particular across the economic sectors that consume the most energy: industry, transport, buildings. Increased power generation from cleaner sources will be critical. We believe the world can achieve net-zero CO2 emissions to meet the goal of Paris. Our scenarios also underline great opportunity in the transformation of the energy system. Shell is becoming an energy business for the future and is playing its part to help drive that change. Welcome to Shell’s official YouTube channel. Although carbon neutral and net zero carbon are closely related to each other, and even sometimes used interchangeably, there are some key differences between the two that are important to be aware of. For example, and perhaps the most important distinction, is what they mean in terms of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Around the globe, countries and companies are setting targets to achieve net zero emissions. But what does this mean? This short video explains what Net Zero emissions are, and what the steps along the way to achieving this is.
As extreme weather events roiled communities around the world this summer, businesses and governments are feeling more pressure than ever to respond to climate change. Tracking emissions has historically been difficult, because the methods for tracking a company’s carbon footprint are all over the place. In the U.S., corporate sustainability reporting remains unstandardized and largely voluntary. But the landscape looks better in Europe, as a recently adopted proposal is set to expand the number of companies that must produce sustainability reports. That measure will also require more detailed and standardized disclosures and impose mandatory audits. That’s where companies like Plan A and Planetly come in. These Berlin-based startups make software that helps companies monitor, report and reduce their carbon emissions, and the market for their services is booming. Meanwhile, apps like Klima, which help individuals offset their own personal emissions, are also growing rapidly. » Subscribe to CNBC: 🤍 » Subscribe to CNBC TV: 🤍 » Subscribe to CNBC Classic: 🤍 About CNBC: From 'Wall Street' to 'Main Street' to award winning original documentaries and Reality TV series, CNBC has you covered. Nationals Senator Matt Canavan says net zero emissions is a “massive plot” by China to de-industrialise and “weaken” the West. It was confirmed BMW will relocate production of the electric Mini from the United Kingdom to China. “They’ve convinced all these gullible people in the West that yeah we should shut down our industry, we should no longer produce reliable power, everything will be great, the planet will cool and we’ll turn back the tides,” he told Sky News Australia. “All that happens is you take all those jobs, you transfer all the jobs from the West to other countries that mean to do us harm.”

Forests burn, glaciers melt and one million species face extinction. Can we humans save the planet from ourselves? In a new film, alumni Sir David Attenborough and Dr Jane Goodall DBE, and leading Cambridge University researchers, talk about the urgency of the climate crisis – and some of the solutions that will take us towards zero carbon. If we are to avoid climate disaster we must sharply reduce our carbon dioxide emissions starting today – but how? Cambridge researchers describe their work on generating and storing renewable energy, reducing energy consumption, understanding the impact of climate policies, and probing how we can each reduce our environmental impact. We hear how the ambitious new programme Cambridge Zero is bringing together ideas and innovations to tackle the global challenge of climate catastrophe – and inspiring a generation of future leaders – and how the University is looking at its own operations to develop a zero carbon pathway for the future. Aviation must find an alternative to fossil fuels if countries are to hit ambitious net zero targets by 2050. ✉️ OUR NEWSLETTER: 🤍 📚 OUR COURSE/MEMBERSHIP: 🤍 Electric cars companies are lying to you: their products aren't even close to being zero emissions. But hey, aren't these new "environmentally friendly" vehicles supposed to help us save the planet? Well, I'm not so sure. Of course, in many ways electric cars are better than gasoline-powered ones. In most nations, an electric car puts out less carbon than a gas car per mile or kilometre. But most of the time, the carbon and cost to our planet of manufacturing electric cars and the waste they produce aren't factored in. And neither is the cost of human lives, especially in cobalt mining. Of course, a lot of these facts are glossed over, or buried via PR and shady marketing tactics, just so that Telsla, and other electric car manufacturers can peddle the "zero emission" lie, in order to make a lot of money. Sky News host Chris Kenny says delivering zero emissions by 2050 through the net zero policies "cannot be done" through the current technologies, which has been "made clear" by the International Energy Agency. “To try and pretend we can do this on renewables and storage is an absolute fallacy,” Mr Kenny told Sky News host Paul Murray.
